Erika One chronic illness I chose is ovarian cancer. The form of cancer hits home for me because my mother suffered type 3 ovarian cancer. Not many women pay close attention to the changes their reproductive system is doing because they are just on the go and just brush it off. "Each year in the United States, about 21,000 women get ovarian cancer and about 14,000 die from it.

Ovarian cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system, but it accounts for only about 3% of all cancers in women" (CDC).

Two resources that the community must offer are online forums and sessions in the riverside community hospital. These can help women reach out to others who can talk about their experience and how they have over come their hardship. In the hospital, patients have access to rehabilitation programs, education rooms, and lymphedema therapy.

Two national services are National Cancer Institute and American Cancer Society. These services provide online support and educational needs for the effected individuals.

These societies also provide meetings at local facilities so they can talk face to face to express their feelings and how they have over come cancer. I feel that continuum of these programs will always needed and around within the community because there is no cure for cancer and there will always be a need for support group. Counseling and gaining moral support can help keep these programs in use.
