Special populations in health care Review your classmates' posts.

Provide a substantive response (minimum of 100 words) to at least two of your peers. What risk factors did you select in the segments that your classmate did not?

What alternative health needs could you propose in addition to those suggested by your classmate? For vulnerable mothers and children three factors that come into play are age, education, and income.

It can be very risky for a woman to become pregnant especially if at a young or old age. " . . . mothers who are considered very young (10-14 years young) and mothers over the age of 40 have difficulties with low birth weight infants" (Burkholder & Nash, 2013). Females who become pregnant before their bodies are fully developed can cause their child to be premature or can have complicated pregnancies.

As far as education, they are not getting the education in school about safe sex and what it is to being pregnant. Income is also a vulnerability because it they come from a low income family it can be very difficult to get diapers and other necessities both for the baby and mother.

For people affected by alcohol and substance abuse three factors are education, age, and income. Naturally, young adults are very curious about alcohol and substances. Statistics shows "College-ageyoung adults between 18 and 20 report the highest level of binge drinking episodes in a month at a rate of 72%. Teenagersaged 15 to 17 are second, with a binge drinking reported rate of 65%" (Burkholder & Nash, 2013).

Many young individuals are not educated on the side effects of long term and short term substance abuse and many are exposed to it at college parties or grew up or around the wrong people that got them hooked on to drugs.

Access through healthcare and education on both pregnancy and substance abuse should be taught in school. Individuals spend a lot of time at school getting an education thus making it easier to educate.

Having interventions can help individuals who live under roof of their parents who do drugs so that there can be ways to prevent them.

Sex education is important for both male and female because it takes two to make a baby. Burkholder, D. M., & Nash, N. B. (2014). Special Populations in Health Care. Burlington,
