Evaluating Research Tools and Methods

Research paper Primary and secondary data collection source

The primary data source presented in the management research paper was data collection through questionnaires and also through an interviewed of some selected managers and subordinates, by Calota et al., (2015). The data was collected from administrative managers, technical managers, administrators, and production managers. For example, my research work is based on Qatalum organisation, and that the primary data source would be from Qatalum organisation production managers and administrators accordingly from the Qatalum organisation. These production managers are those from cast house; department managers, supervisors, process engineers, planners, HR secretaries in the various departmental area. Personals from the HR, The Carbon plant group, which involves department managers, supervisors, process engineers, planners, from paste plant, Anode service plant, and Anode barking plant department. Easterby-Smith et al., define primary data as being data that has been collected directly by the researcher ( 2012, p. 72).

However, the other department that would consider for improvement on the management research data source. Reduction department managers, supervisors, process engineers, planners, nevertheless, the employees from the HR, could be considered in the primary data collection. Notwithstanding, the secondary data source presented by the management research articles were from journal, databases from organisations. For example, mariana argue that "Empirical data allows us to emphasize that organizational growth and sustainability is closely related to the way it choose to communicate with all its publics", (2016).

Alternative research methodology

The method for this research study is comprised quantitative research which is generally associated with the positivist paradigm. It involves selected participants, collecting and converting data into numerical form so that statistical calculations can be made and conclusions drawn. Research design, However, no instruments will be used. As the positivist method usually incorporate the assumption that there are true answers, and the job of the researcher is either to start with a hypothesis about the nature of the world, and then seek data to confirm or disconfirm it, or the researcher poses several hypotheses and seeks data that will allow selection of the correct one Mark E-Smith, et al (2012:39). The rational for this method is that I will employ self-completion questionnaire for data collection as "the advantage that the cost per respondent is low for large samples compared with method that requires face-to-face by Easterby-Smith, et al., (2012:230)

The alternative research methodologies would employed for this study could be the "Surveys" which involve collecting information, usually from fairly large groups of people, by means of mailing questionnaires to a potential respondent and asking them to mail it back and but other techniques such as interviews or telephoning may also be used. The most straightforward type (the "one shot survey") would be administered to a sample of people at a set point in time. Another type is the "before and after survey" which people complete before a major event or experience and then again afterwards, by Alzheimer Europe website (No date).

Alternative Data strategy

The alternative data collection strategies for this study would be the application of questionnaires, which are a good way to obtain information from a large number of people and/or people who may not have the time to attend an interview or take part in experiments. The rational is that those employees who could not be captured by the Quantitative method, would have to be capture and that I would have to visit them for their input on the research study. Actually, this questionnaire would contain multiple choice questions, attitude scales, closed questions and open-ended questions. I would administered in a number of different ways (e.g. sent by post or as email attachments, or handed out personally . here in my opinion, the participant may feel that s/he is taking part in an interview rather than completing a questionnaire as the researcher will be noting down the responses on his/her behalf.
