Scenario

You are a member of a project team where Don is the team leader. Don has more years of industry experience than most on the team. However, this is the first time Don has been responsible for leading a team as he usually works independently.

Don often ridicules members of the team and barks orders and makes demands in order to reach the set goals.

You have heard from other members of the team that they are offended, hurt, and reluctant to produce the work that is required to meet the deadline. You have been tapped by the group to talk to Don.

Questions to Answer:

1. What is the problem or issue in the scenario that addressed as the supervisor or manager?

2. Describe how you responded to your scenario?

3. Describe what you said, what techniques you used (from our discussion in class and from the book), and what expectations and/or benchmarks did you set?

4. Are there consequences for this person, if so what are they and how did you express that?

5. What was important for you to remember while having this difficult conversation with the person in the scenario?

6. The person you are communicating with reacted negatively to your message. How did you react when the person you addressed reacted negatively toward your conversation?
