Saturday Night Live (SNL) based a show on 'different outcomes of famous movies'. Each bit began with a famous scene from a movie, then followed through with the SNL actors taking the movie scene to a different and humorous ending. The message being conveyed was that horror movies usually become horrors only because one or more of the characters makes a dumb move, like walking in a graveyard. One of the movies was owned by Warner, who sued SNL for the unathorized use of the movie clip, and demanded an on-air apology and payment of $250,000. SNL replied that this was only a humorous use of the clip to convey a critical look at movie storylines and as criticism and comment.
