Retired military commanders urge Congress to address 'gun violence crisis' is about retired commanders who have written a letter to the Congressional leaders stating that they need to take action/ The violent crimes related to guns is out of control. Congress needs to make background checks tighter.

One thing that is talked about in this article is how people who have domestic violence convictions can still have firearms and that is one thing that needs to be changed. For example, they stated that Devin Kelley, the Southerland Springs shooter, had previous domestic violence convictions that were failed to be reported.

Trump, on the other hand, believes that with stricter gun control, there would be more death. When speaking about the "extreme vetting" that he has for immigration being used towards gun control, he is quoted as saying "...If he didn't have a gun, instead of having 26 dead, you would have had hundreds more dead." (Blake, 2017). With this statement, he was referring to the man who stopped Devin Kelley. Trump felt that if we had stricter gun control, the man who stopped Kelley would not have had a gun in the first place. Therefore, Kelley would have killed more than the 26 that he did.

I personally agree with stricter gun control. For instance, with Devin Kelley, he shouldn't have had a gun to begin with. "The Air Force failed to tell federal authorities about the domestic violence convictions of Devin Kelley, the Sutherland Springs shooter, who purchased several guns after his release from jail and discharge from the military." (Zezima, 2017). If background checks had been tighter, and more regulations along with improvement of current ones, people like Kelley would not be able to attain firearms as easily.
