Discussion response 1:

Carbonell (2008) defines behavioral blend as finding the "people puzzle". The people puzzle that this course will use is the DISC assessment of personality types. The personality assessment has four personality types, "D" (active-task oriented), "I" (active-people oriented), "S" (passive-task oriented), and "C" (passive-people oriented) (Carbonell, 2008). Within the assessment there are two types of graphs, "this is expected of me" and "this is me" (2008).

The Uniquely You describes my personality type as "S". This personality type thinks people expect you to be more sensitive and submissive. The "S" personality type are very loyal and friendly on an individual basis (Carbonell, 2008); we tend to be withdrawn and reserved in public; humble spirit and quiet demeanor make you well liked; I am not a very outgoingly friendly, but you have many friends (2008). Others see me as steady and stable and makes me sought after as a good listener (2008). I often feel and think inadequate and unworthy and I am more security oriented; and feeling crippled by bear when I must speak to large groups (2008). This being crippled by fear when I must speak in public is very true about me, but God has a sense of humor because He has called me to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Graph 2 in the assessment is about 90% accurate in my opinion. I am someone that does not like a lot of confusion, I prefer peace and harmony and I love to be in the background Carbonell, 2008). In the example of the Immature "S" personality type, the person was very insecure and feared failure (2008). This is the reason why I did not pursue higher education right out of highs school, I was afraid that I would not succeed and live up to what others thought of me (2008). Getting my education has motivated me and empowered me to want to serve others which is the reason why I chose the human service field. The Mature "S" is shy and timid; hiding behind your mother's skirt (2008). This was me, I was afraid of everything as a child, afraid to walk across the street, afraid of crowds, and afraid of being out after dark.

Discussion response 2:

Carbonell (2008) states that people fit better in life where they are understood and comfortable. Personality traits give insight into people's behaviors which helps people to better understand each other and to communicate more effectively. The behavioral blend consists of four personality traits. These traits are independent and related to each other in specific ways.

Personality patterns list specific traits about how people behave and communicate. Carbonell lists these traits according to behavior patterns and characteristics. These four traits are: Active/task oriented which I see as the ambitious one, take charge, leader who knows what they want and works toward getting it. Carbonell calls the trait the "D", for directing, driving, demanding, dominating, determined, decisive and doing. Active/people oriented are friendly, encouraging, people are drawn to them because they care about others. The "I" is inspiring, influencing, inducing, impressing, interactive and interest in people. I would say that both of these personality traits would be concerned the extroverted people. The thinker and not so spontaneous person who follow rules even if they are feeling like it is not working for them. They are the passive task/ oriented or the "C". The "C" is cautious, competent, calculating, compliant, careful and contemplative. The reserved, easy going person who usually follows the rules and does not take changes is called the "S" or passive/people oriented. They are steady, secure, stable, shy, submissive, servant, specialist and security-oriented. These two groups have introverted personalities.

When I read the personality traits I felt like my trait was the "I' After taking the Uniquely You Profile I found out that on graph one, I am considered an "S" and on graph two, my blend is "I/S/D". I do see why my profile lists me as an "S" I am loyal, faithful to others, and it is important to me to help others. I work hard at doing my best whether it is behind the scenes or in front. I consider myself to be reserved but if I am needed or expected to I can speak publicly for myself and others. My personality blend is accurate. I love seeing people achieve their goals. I am reserved when I need to be. I am a peacemaker who likes to take charge. I work well under pressure and I am teachable. I will follow and respect my leaders but at same time I can provide positive support through my actions as well as my conversation. In order for me to enlarge my conversation I must be willing to engage myself and study people to understand their verbal and non-verbal cues (Stewart) as well as their personality traits. An active listener will be able engage in good communication with others because they well be able to give, receive and, understand what is being conveyed to them. King James says in Proverbs 4:7b, says and with all they getting get understanding, effective communication requires understanding.
