Choose any Sociological topic/social issue/problem that really interests you and that you have a passion for.

The 2nd stage is to narrow down the topic. A good and simple way would be to narrow it down into a specific research question. What is it that you are seeking an answer to?

Examples:

Obesity = Broad topic so need to make it more specific by asking:

a. Does fast food cause obesity? (This is a specific topic that you can work with)

You are required to get your topic approved by me one month before the due date.

A minimum of 5 sources must be used for your paper.

You are allowed to use the following sources for your paper: books, academic journals (e.g. American Journal of Sociology, Social Problem, etc.), educational and professional websites.

Points will be deducted if instructions are not followed.

The research paper must include the following format and must be no less than 4 complete pages (excluding title page and bibliography). Not following will lead to a lower grade.

1) Selection of Topic and thesis statement.

2) Title page - Title page must have the title/topic of your paper in it, title needs to reflect the content of the paper. Reader needs to know what the paper is about. It should also include your name, class name, class time, and the Instructor's name.

3) Double space, one-inch margin all around, 12 pt. font size.

4) Number your pages.

5) At least four pages of text (font size 12 pt.). Try to use one of the sociological theories to analyze the issue or apply concepts/terms you have learned in the course related to your topic

6) Reference, Bibliography or work cited (APA style). - MLA not accepted.

7) At least 5 references needed.. At least 2 from related journals.
