Research Paper Peer Review Instructions

Apply each of the following questions to the paper you've selected to read. Provide thorough and thoughtful answers so the author can easily and appropriately revise.

1. Who is the main audience of this paper?

The audience of this paper comprises of the readers that are interested in the life of Ernest Hemingway and the kind of stories that he wrote.

2. What is the main idea presented herein?

The main idea presented by this paper is to highlight a problem that has been there in society since a very long time now. The idea of abortion is looked down upon and from the story in the paper, the discussion that takes place between a couple in order to decide for it or not, is shown to be a complicated one.

3. What information does the reader need to know about the idea for it to make sense?

The only way the idea can make sense to the reader is, if there was enough information about the relationship that the couple had. Whether they were financially equipped to handle a child being brought into the world, whether the American man would keep his word and let nothing change between them, whether this was all a play by the American man in order to be unburdened of any responsibility of a child, or whether Jig would not be faced with any complications such as infertility or infection even if she did go through with it on her own account without being manipulated by the American man.

4. Are examples clear and appropriate?

The examples are not very clear but are appropriate once the story has been read. It is linked to the problem at hand and shows what kind of examples can be used to explain the situation better.

5. Is evidence or support for any claims provided?

No, there is no such evidence or support for any claims provided. This is so because, the story shows a part of the couple's lives and not what comes after. The claims provided are all based on how the couple sounds like. From what Jig is saying, it seems like she does not want to go through with the procedure for abortion but at the same time is anxious thinking that it might change their relationship. While the American man seems to be okay with it either way, but from how he's saying it, shows that his claims to be supportive of any decision taken by Jig are not very honest since he is persuading her to go ahead with the procedure after all.

6. Is the topic appropriate to the writing assignment? Does it need to be more general? More focused?

The topic is not very appropriate to the writing assignment. It is a very controversial subject and people can have various different views about it. It needs to be more general, something people can relate to on a higher level. That way it can be more focused and the writer can present a more accurate analysis.

7. Are writer's points organized in a logical way?

The writer's points are not organized in a logical way. This is because, in the start of the couple's conversation, the writer makes it seem like the American man is not financially stable enough to afford raising a child and does not want to get attached to the thought of it in case it becomes too difficult to change his mind about getting Jig to get an abortion. Then moving along the story, the writer points out parts of the conversation between the couple, where it seems that the man might want to get out of the relationship without having the burden of a child holding him back. It seems he might not be completely honest about having it go back to how everything was before Jig got pregnant. Then in the end the writer concludes that the American man wants to go back to the life of sight-seeing and drinking all while Jig is upset in having to come to terms with what she might have to do.

So the writer makes the readers change their mind about the American man a few times within the passage which is not a very organized way of writing.
