Require of formal research project
Write a formal meta-analysis of your informal writing (your reader's notebook and your discussion forum responses). This assignment asks you to reflect on, analyze and set forth your understanding of the themes raised by the literature in this survey course. The paper should include the readings you've done for the course, but its PRIMARY source should be your notebook entries and discussion forum posts: under analysis, they will reveal how your thinking about this literature has evolved over the term. This evolution should be the major focus of your essay (in other words, your primary object of analysis is yourself-your own thinking and feeling about the literature and its themes, as evidenced by your informal writing).
Look in your notebook entries and discussion forum posts for one or more interesting patterns or recurring interest (or related patterns/interests) and represent its/their development and implications in your essay. However, make sure that you analyze this pattern/interest's role in your thinking; don't simply narrate its chronological occurrence in your notebook entries.
MAKE SURE YOU DO THE FOLLOWING:
- Create a narrow, specific thesis statement that is unified and coherent.
- Support and illustrate your analysis with evidence from your notebook entries (i.e., quotations and paraphrases).
- Document using MLA citation format.
- Cite your own work appropriately (see below).
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T DO THE FOLLOWING:
- List unrelated points from your notebook entries.
- Limit your discussion to broad, generalized statements.
- Quote excessively.
