Report Assignment -

Dealing with customers or clients is an integral part of business life. However, while face-to-face interactions with customers are often very productive, they can also be difficult to plan for and manage, especially if you are a new employee.

For this report/presentation assignment, imagine your group has been asked to produce a 'Communicating with Customers' Guide for new employees in the form of either a written report or a recorded presentation. Your guide should focus on a specific area of industry or business (e.g. Accounting; Marketing; HR; Design; Publishing, etc.).

Your group will produce either a written report on this topic, or create a recorded PowerPoint slideshow presentation with voiceover. Your report/presentation must identify factors involved in interacting successfully with clients and a brief section on troubleshooting some common problems.

Some points to consider in your discussion:

• Customer needs and how to identify problems.
• Communication barriers and conflict resolution.

Assignment format and style -

For the written report: Report structure: Title page; Table of contents using the MS Word automatic table structure; Executive summary or Abstract (which summarises the main points made in the body of the report); Body of report with Introduction, topics/points under headings (and if appropriate subheadings) and Conclusion/Recommendations; Reference list.
