EAP REPORT TEMPLATE

1. Title Page - This is the first page of the report and should include:

  • The title of the report
  • Your name and student ID
  • The name of your teacher.
  • The due date for the report

2. Executive Summary - The purpose of an executive summary is to provide an overview or summary of a report. It is designed for busy managers or executives who do not have the time to read complete reports but still need to have enough information to make informed decisions about the issues in the report. The executive summary is

  • Written in the past tense.
  • Not included in the word count
  • On a page of its own and is placed before the Table of Contents

It is important to-

  • Introduce the topic by making a statement about the purpose of the report.
  • Mention the research methodology applied in the report.
  • Give a brief summary of the findings and recommendations of the report.

You could use this type of wording:

  • The purpose of this report was to critically analyse...
  • The aim of this report was to provide a critical analysis of...
  • The report involved / was based on research...
  • It was found that/The research showed that...
  • The main findings from the research were...
  • An analysis of the findings showed that...
  • The recommended strategies to overcome were ...

3. Table of Contents

  • This is placed on a new page
  • It is not included in the word count
  • Keep the table to one page only
  • Use the Word program Table of Contents tool for a professional presentation example below

i. Introduction (Start your word count here) this is written in the present tense. It:

  • Briefly introduces the context of the report
  • includes a statement of the report's purpose
  • Provides the reader with information about what is included in the report and also the order in which it is presented
  • Indicates the scope and/or limitations of the report
  • Includes definitions of any essential concepts or terms

However: Do not include the findings in the introduction.

You could use this type of wording:

  • The purpose of this report is to critically analyse
  • The report is divided into main parts The first is
  • The second section is a critical analysis of This analysis includes/involves
  • The third part identifies
  • A conclusion summarises the report findings
  • Finally, recommendations are made for
  • A summary of the report findings is followed by recommendations for

ii. Findings (Body)

The findings (sometimes referred to as the Body) describe relevant information from your research and readings (your sources) and should include the following:

  • Be organised according to the key issues you would like to high
  • Be based on your reading and research
  • Provide information supporting evidence and data that is context/scenario of the report

Make sure the numbering system and wording for the Table of Contents are the same as those used in the report.

iii. Discussion

This is a very important part of the report as it presents your interpretation of the findings of your reading research. It should also critically analyse how your findings related to the business scenario.

iv. Conclusion

  • Includes the purpose of the research/report.
  • Summarises the findings and analysis.
  • Does not include any new information

v. Recommendations

  • These can be presented by using numbers or dot points
  • List the recommendations in order of importance, starting with the most import or most valuable recommendation.
  • The recommendations must be based on your critical analysis of your findings.

Reference List -

  • Start the list a new page
  • Use the Harvard referencing system.
  • Place all entries are in alphabetical order.
  • Do not number the entries.

Other Points

  • 12 pitch Times New Roman/Ariel/Calibri
  • 1.5 spacing
  • 2.5 cm margins
  • Footer with student name and ID number as well as the page number.
