Language barrier with the patient and family should be taken into consideration. If needed, a translator should be present during the interview to ensure effective communication. It is important to keep in mind that Ms. Li may perceive certain health topics to be private and may be reluctant to openly discussing it with a health care provider. If this is the case, assessment should be performed to the best ability while maintaining respect and ensuring that the patient is comfortable. Asian folk medicine and philosophies such as acupuncture, herbs, meditation, and massage are incorporated into health practices (Edelman et al., 2014). These all should be taken into consideration when caring for and developing a course of treatment for Ms. Li.
