Read the six scenarios listed below and answer the questions that follow each scenario. Be sure to answer all parts of the question, as each one requires multiple responses to complete the answer. Give brief answers that show your understanding of the concepts.

1-While on a vacation at the beach, Alaina and her cousin went for a bike ride. When they returned, they set their bikes on their kickstands, but Alaina's bike fell over. Alaina told her cousin that the bike was so tired from the long ride that it laid down to take a nap.

Identify Alaina's flawed cognitive process and decide if she is more likely to be 6 or 10 years old. Why?

2-Henry's grandfather died recently and Henry is very sad about it. Henry's older brother told him that their grandfather is in heaven now where he is happy and not sick any more. This is very confusing to Henry, since he saw at the funeral that their grandfather was buried in the cemetery.

Identify each of the brothers' cognitive stages, the cognitive ability that the older brother has achieved, and why this makes a difference.

3-Charlotte is a toddler who loves to eat Cheerios while sitting on the couch, snuggled up with her blanket. When she was younger, sometimes her blanket would move and cover her bowl of Cheerios and Charlotte would just sit there and cry. Now if this happens, Charlotte simply picks up the blanket and continues eating the Cheerios.

Identify the cognitive stage of this child, explain the cognitive ability she has gained, and say why that makes a difference.

4-Gemma and Jonah go out to eat at a new restaurant. After they finish, the waiter leaves the bill on their table, so Jonah puts his credit card down on top of it and waits for the waiter to take it. However the waiter does not come back. Jonah becomes frustrated and doesn't understand why the waiter doesn't take the bill and credit card to process the payment, as they do at other restaurants. Gemma notices that other customers are carrying their bill to the cashier for payment and realizes that this restaurant works differently.

What cognitive process is Jonah following that leads him to frustration and what other cognitive process does Gemma use that proves to be more helpful? You must indicate why Gemma's process is effective while Jonah' is not.

5-Devonte is very excited because his mom has prepared homemade pepperoni pizza for dinner - his favorite. When dinner is ready, Devonte asks his mom to cut the pizza into twelve pieces instead of the usual eight pieces. When his mom asks why, Devonte says that it's because he is really hungry and wants to eat a lot.

What is Devonte's cognitive stage? Say what cognitive ability he lacks and explain how he would think differently once that ability is attained.

6-Nicole is proud of the finger painting she made and wants to show it to her teacher. She calls to the teacher, who is helping a child on the other side of the room, and asks her to look at her painting. The teacher looks up from across the room and Nicole holds up her artwork. But she's holding it so that it is facing her, and the teacher can only see the back of the paper, not the painting.

What is Nicole's cognitive stage and what cognitive flaw is she exhibiting? Explain how this works.
