SUMMARY: There is debate about whether texting or social media add to productivity or waste time. Part of the problem could be that it is hard to quantify the impact of using technology to communicate in the workplace. There are differences between age groups when it comes to texting and social media. Technology can create accessibility in the corporate hierarchy. It will be interesting to see how companies adapt and change their communication styles as they hire those who use texting and social media.

There seems to be two different opinions and ideas about whether or not multitasking is good or bad in the workplace and school. One important issue would be for you to think about the communication culture of your organization. There may also be ways in which technology is productive or can waste time. Some think texting and social networking will help companies because it will improve workplace interaction. Your perspective might depend on your age. Older workers and younger workers seem to have different ideas about using technology to communicate.
