Read the Brutality file, and tell me what are the Constitutional issues in the Rodney King cases. Tell me which amendments are involved and why. Be thorough and critical (think about all of the amendments). This is not an easy assignment, since we didn’t discuss the Constitutional issues, and because the issues are fairly obscure in this case. Don’t just look at the King side of things; see how Constitutional issues emerge in the prosecution of the officers. I expect at least a couple pages or more here. Also read the “Ask a Policeman” article for a slightly different view. Note, the author is a civil rights lawyer, so he likes to remind us the Bell people were unarmed…but officers don’t know this until after the incident.
