REACTION PAPER

The purpose of your reaction paper is to reflect on a social issue you are interested in, personal experience, an issue you saw in the movie etc. using sociological concepts you learned in class. To do this, you need to complete the following parts:

1. Get your topic approved by me.

2. Write few paragraphs describing the issue you are interested in, and why it is important to analyze this issue from a sociological perspective. When doing this, use concepts we learned in class.

3. Support your ideas with class notes and the textbook.

4. Pick at least one peer-reviewed research article discussing your topic, and describe in few paragraphs what it says about the issue you are interested in.

5. For the section 5 pick one of the following options:

1. If you were a researcher, how would you go about studying your topic of interest:

• What theoretical framework, if any, best explains your issue of interest? Why?

• Which methods would you use? Quantitative? Qualitative? Why?

• What would be your independent and dependent variables?

• What would be your population of interest?

• How will this research help us better understand your issue of interest?

2. How does the article you picked go about analyzed the issue you are interested in? (if you used more than one article in part 3, pick one of them)

• Does the article use any theory? Which one? If not, which theoretical framework would be appropriate?

• Which methods does the article use? Quantitative? Qualitative? Describe.

• Does the article identify independent and dependent variables? Which ones?

• What is the population of interest that the article uses?

• How do the findings of this article help us better understand your issue of interest?

• Bibliography

• Use ASA writing style: Times New Roman,12, double-spaced

• Minimum 3-maximum 4 pages

• Good grammar
