Ransomware involves the kidnapping of an organiztion's electronically stored assets.

They are sealed with encryption devices that prevents the owner from accessing the data or assets.

When the owner pays the ransom through remote financial channels the kidnappers release the assets to the owner by providing him with the encryption information.
