1. The Buddhist philosophy states that the constant search for comfort and security will lead to inevitable suffering. If this is true, then why do people place such a high premium on creating comfort and security in their lives?

2. Take three minutes and list as many positive emotions and negative emotions as you possibly can. What is your ratio of negative to positive emotions?

(Instructors: typical ratio from research is 3:1 - more negative emotions in general). If you were a psychologist, which of these emotions would you most like to research and why? Do you think positive psychologists are correct for focus on positive emotions in lieu of negative emotions?

3. Gratitude is reported to im rove one's mood and ability to cope with life's stresses. If gratitude makes people happy, then why don't more people more naturally and routinely take on a perspective of gratitude?
