Question: PURPOSE

In this report, you are expected to summarize what you have learned about managerial leadership this semester and to provide some action steps you wish to take over the next few years in college (or in your career if you are graduating soon). In doing so, you will make initial progress towards completing the Professional Development Cycle that was introduced early in the semester. This final report will serve as a reminder of the commitments you have made to further your own development. The report will enable you to focus on what you learned about leadership and about yourself. Essentially, your paper will address the question: "What does managerial leadership mean to me and how can I commit to bettering myself as I move forward in my college years?"

Part 1: What does managerial leadership mean to you?

Identify how you see yourself as a managerial leader. We defined managerial leadership at the beginning of this semester but I would like you to dive deeper and explore this definition as it pertains to you. Please review your class notes, relevant readings, homework assignments, case studies, small group discussions, etc. from the course to determine how you would define yourself as a managerial leader. Please provide at least one life example of your managerial leadership in practice. Also, here are some questions to consider:

• Have you ever supervised anyone before? For example, were you ever the president of a club in high school or college?

• Do you believe you are in fact a leader?

• What strengths, values, and competencies do you bring to the table?

• What areas do you want to grow in?

Part 2: Outline a goal-oriented action plan that is meaningful and doable

Building on what you learned about you and managerial leadership, identify at least one development goal that you wish to pursue in college to become a better version of you (e.g., find an internship in something you have been nervous to do by April for the summer; improve your verbal communication skills in your relationship with your roommate by next semester; try one new workshop, club, or activity each semester to explore what you may be passionate about). For the goal(s) you select:

• Identify specific actions you will take and how you plan to commit to these actions (for example, will you join a listserv of sorts, try a new app, etc.).

• Where you will find [social] support that will be helpful to you?

• Include a time frame for accomplishing your goals (or action steps).

Your report should be approximately 2-3 pages of text (double spaced, 12 point font), not including a title page, etc. In addition to the criteria noted above, this paper will be graded on the following criteria (worth 2 points each):

Clarity of Analysis: Originality, creativity, and completeness of your ideas.

Use of Relevant Concepts: Appropriate use of key concepts and frameworks from class to support your discussion.

Use of Specific Examples: How well you have provided specific examples of your managerial leadership style and goals in your action plan.

Organization and Writing: How well written the paper is, including grammar, spelling, citations, illustrations, and overall structure of your presentation.
