Question: PSY339 - Reflection Activities

At various points during the term, students will be asked to respond to reflection questions. Reflection responses are expected to be well developed and conceived, and they must clearly convey that the student has significantly pondered the issue. Students are required to submit the response in a Word document with the file name "YourLastName_PSY339_reflection#_.docx" where you will add the reflection number from 1 to 4. This assignment will be uploaded to the appropriate module's Assignment box. (Each of these Assignment is linked to Turnitin.) All responses must be received on time or there will be a one letter grade reduction for each 24 hours the assignment is late.

Reflection Activity #1

(Due at the end of Module 2, Sunday, 11:59 PM EDT/EST)

Have you ever examined other educational systems of other cultural groups or societies? To truly benefit from this section of the course, take a few moments and research one educational system that exists in a culture other than the United States. Write a brief reflection paper of no more than 500 words summarizing the tenets of this educational system. At the end of the reflection, make sure to answer the following question: From this activity, what did you learn about the values and beliefs which that culture deems important in education?

Reflection Activity #2

(Due at the end of Module 4, Sunday, 11:59 PM EDT/EST)

Given that fast food and chain restaurants sell food items that single-handedly can exceed the recommended daily intake of fat, calories, sodium, and cholesterol, some individuals who have developed ailments as a result of consuming such food have recently begun to pursue litigation against these fast food and chain restaurants for intentionally selling foods they know are unhealthy. The chains have largely countered these lawsuits with the notion that their foods should be consumed in a limited quantity and coupled with regular exercise and other healthy behaviors. Do you think these restaurants should be held accountable for offering food that is inherently unhealthy? Or should Americans be held responsible for our behavior of continuing to consume it and more often than recommended? Write a reflection paper of no more than 500 words summarizing your thoughts on this issue.

If you were a therapist and a patient from a different cultural background presented to you for treatment, what steps would you take to ensure that you provided culturally sensitive assessment, diagnosis and treatment? Write a brief reflection on this question of no more than 500 words that summarizes your thoughts and reactions.

(Due at the end of Module 8, Sunday, 11:59 PM EDT/EST)

If you have ever worked for an organization, you likely had to work with a group or a committee to complete a project. Did you notice patterns of social loafing or social striving? If you were the group leader or project manager of a work group, how could you ensure that all members equally contributed? Write a brief reflection paper on these questions of no more than 500 words in length.
