My ultimate goal is to become a well-rounded HR professional and to provide the best solution and support for the people at my company. I currently work for a consulting firm as an internal HR representative and by taking this course, I want to be able to apply the knowledge acquired to my current role. Hopefully this course will help me come up with multiple solutions and think creatively when facing different types of situations and scenarios.

Prior to joining my current firm, I worked for a construction company where I was hired and tasked to help develop and establish and new HR business process. I was tasked with developing ways to integrate new and old teams, to develop a recruiting business process, policies, and to execute the new HR business structure with all stakeholders for the company.

My name is Sharon and I am a born and raised native Houstonian currently located in Houston. I received my undergrad degree at UT Austin and graduated back in 2011. Initially I worked in the higher education industry and wanted to work in the non-profit world, but had a change of heart and pursued a career in recruiting/HR in 2013. Since then I decided it was time to learn more about the business world since I am in a corporate setting now to help set myself up for the best possible chance of success and growth to a leadership role for my future.

I am currently working in the real estate appraisal review department of a local bank in Tyler. As I gain more work experience, I would eventually like to manage the appraisal review team for the bank. As a department manager, I will need to regularly consult with other departments to solve problems and improve the performance of the bank. Furthermore, I may encounter problems as I manager and will need to ask others for help. Being able to draw on the expertise of an expert would allow me to fix problems and be a more successful manager.

Many people think they need to have the job title of a consultant and charge high fees to engage in consulting. However, according to Module 1, anyone who provides advice to a client, be it a person, a group of people, or an organization could be considered engaging in consulting. Given this definition, I regularly engage in consulting. The appraisal review department is a fairly new department within the bank. Therefore, we frequently encounter situations in which the problem and the solution are unclear. To identify the problem and come up with a solution, I will assume the role of a facilitator while my supervisor is the collaborator. We will work together to improve organizational performance.

I am 28 years old and live in the Tyler area, I am married with two young kids (ages 3 and 5) and work fulltime for a local bank in Tyler. After completing this class, I will be only 1 class away from earning my MBA. My plan is to graduate in December. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, camping, and traveling. I am a big National Park enthusiast and plan on visiting every national park in the US. In a week, I will be going to Great Sand Dunes National Park which I am very excited about.

This class ought to be very interesting due to most of the key components of ‘Performance Consulting' being applicable in several different work areas I'm currently engaging. Looking for and identifying performance gaps are a constant battle that all companies face from low all the way to high level management. Communication development plans or moreover communication in general is/are strong components of everyday business that need to be constantly addressed. Dr. Wang's example of a proper report in this field is fascinating to me as it uses several different written and visual techniques to precisely portray their point.

Consulting in my career has mostly fallen into the analyst role. At times it seems as if I am more of a detective rather than contractor in some of the companies that I work with. Taking large amounts of seemingly random data and producing a more coherent or easily explained whole is a specialty of mine and I think that this class will further my skills in this area. I have never actually been contracted or hired as a direct consultant for performance but rather OD. Typically these roles tend to overlap, but not always.
