Question: Course Requirements and Policies

Canvas competency - you are expected to know how to use Canvas, including uploading assignments, using discussion boards, and taking tests. If you are unfamiliar with using this program there are tutorials available to you under the Online Learning site. If you have technical difficulties, try using an alternate browser (Firefox, Explorer, Chrome, etc.). Although I manage the materials on the site I am not in a position to resolve technical problems, and you will be expected to submit items on time. You should also make sure you have access to a reliable internet connection since late submissions incur penalties (see below).

Course Description: This course is designed to increase student's awareness and knowledge in a way that is personally meaningful to students. In the process of learning, students will be expected to read, write, communicate, and access information technology.

Course Objectives: This course stresses adjustment, growth and self-exploration.

Identify and describe basic concepts and research findings related to: diversity, critical thinking, methods of study adjustment, theories of personality, origins of stress and stress management, psychological factors in health.

Students will read a text on human growth and development.

Students will view and discuss videos of subject-specific interactions.

Assessment will include

1. multiple choice examinations;

2. Short essays on the current topics

3. Weekly discussion

4. a comprehensive final exam;

Students will submit short notes and reflections about the video.

Identify and describe basic concepts and research findings related to: self-concept, self-esteem, and identity, prejudice and discrimination, persuasion, conformity, mob behavior, resisting social influences, psychological disorders, styles of therapy, what to expect from counseling.
Students will analyze situations in their own lives and also investigate their current perceptions by participation in group discussions related to worksheets completed in class.

Critically analysis of a book representing philosophical, conceptual, and individual issues on relationships, adjustment, and self-esteem.

Assessment will include

1. multiple choice examinations;

2. a comprehensive final exam;

3. weekly discussion questions

4. class activities related to the current topic

Students will read a text on human growth and development.

Critically analysis of a book representing philosophical, conceptual, and individual issues on relationships, adjustment, and self-esteem.

Participating in group discussions and also participating in class activities will analyze situations in their own lives and also investigate their current perceptions.

Assessment will include

1. multiple choice examinations;

2. a comprehensive final exam;

3. class activities on current topic

Describe and apply psychological research in an effort to reflect upon and express elements of individual identity

Students will read a text on human growth and development.

Students will take a personality type quiz and engage in a group discussion about it.

1. Students will submit self-discovery papers. Paper topics will cover life goals related to college, adjustment to college, caring relationships for others, caring for self, self-esteem and self-concept.

2. Student will submit weekly discussion about a self-discovery. Discussion topics will cover life goals related to college, adjustment to college, caring relationships for others, caring for self, self-esteem and self-concept.

Students will write a reflection paper based upon their individual results from the personality quiz and from feedback from students in their group.
