Question: As a first step in designing an ethically appropriate plan for a psychological research study, a research proposal, you will identify a problem you want to solve or research questions you want to answer in solving a problem. This will be the topic of the research proposal that you will develop throughout this course. Your paper should be 3-5 pages in length.
Complete the following:
• Provide a research problem and research question that will guide the research proposal. The research problem and research question should be applicable to your particular area of interest.
• Describe the selected topic briefly. This description should be brief but specific enough to present an overview of what your proposal will cover and allow the instructor to assess the acceptability of the project.
• Describe why this topic is important to research in the context of current literature on the topic. Provide supporting information as to why this particular topic was chosen for the research proposal.
• Identify and describe a specific psychological theory or theories, related to the chosen topic, which serves as the foundation for the proposed research. State the theory and describe how this theory pertains to the proposed research.
• Include a literature search strategy that allows you to identify literature related to a research proposal.

Your topic selection is not a part of the proposal itself, but the preliminary preparation for it. You can use the proposal template as a guide to show what you are moving toward, but you will not be ready to use the template to present your work until you complete the Introduction assignment in Unit 4.
Make sure you write your topic paper in third person. Do not use personal pronouns in your paper. Even though you have an interest in the topic and a passion for the research, it is not about you. The goal is adding to the fund of knowledge available on this topic in the profession.

According to Seligman's understanding of well-being (Seligman, 2011), each of the PERMA elements (Positive Emotions, Engagement in life or work, Positive Relationships, Meaning in life and work, and Accomplishment or achievement) serve as pillars of well-being theory, and the underpinnings of the five PERMA elements are the 24 character strengths identified in the VIA Survey and in the Peterson and Seligman (2004) text. Assuming this is true:
• What is the best use of people's time and energy to increase well-being: focus on building up their weakest strengths or focus on building up their signature strengths?
