Question -

Standard A.7. Roles and Relationships at Individual, Group, Institutional, and Societal Levels of the ACA Code of Ethics (Herlihy& Corey, 2014): A.7.a. Advocacy-When appropriate, counselors advocate at individual, group, institutional, and societal levels to examine potential barriers and obstacles that inhibit access and/or growth and development of clients.

Case example: Paul is a college counselor who specializes in career counseling.  Martin comes to see Paul to discuss career options. Martin reports that he has always dreamed of getting a degree in computer science but doesn't believe that this is an option for him. Martin is legally blind, and in the first counseling session he explains how this disability affects all areas of his life, including his ability to make career choices.  Martin states that his advisor in the computer science department had encouraged him to change majors to something that doesn't require many visual tasks. Martin adds that he explained to the advisor that accommodative equipment is available that would enable him to see the computer screen, and that if the department would provide this, he would be able to complete the course work easily.  However, the adviser didn't believe the department had the financial resources to purchase the equipment.  Paul assists Martin in contacting Student Disability Services on campus, and together they find that the equipment can be provided. Paul organizes a task force that will examine how the needs of students with disabilities are being met on campus. Paul also collaborates with other counselors in the center to begin offering diversity training to professors at the university (p. 49).

Please respond to the following: As individuals, we are all connected to various systems and sub-systems that impact our lives. List and discuss the various systems and sub-systems that impacted Martin's life and well-being. Explain how your role and the function of this ethical standard in the helping profession provides advocacy for disabled clients.
