Purpose and Process

This project provides you with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills you develop in this course to a complex ethical dilemma. After choosing from one of three ethical dilemma scenarios provided in the "Course Documents" section of Blackboard, you will proceed through an exploration of the dilemma and make a decision about the appropriate course of action. Specifically, you will identify the key question you are addressing, explore the possible options, select and justify a decision, apply ethical perspective(s) in explaining how you came to your decision, identify your assumptions, and explore the probable consequences of the decision.

Product

The above process should be documented in a 7-9 page (double-spaced) report with the following components (suggested section titles are italicized):

• Introduction and Key Question. Briefly introduce the scenario and clearly explain what key question you are attempting to address.

• Possible Options.

o Discuss and explain the possible options that could be taken.

o Fairly and completely discuss the pros/cons of each option.

o Use relevant credible evidence, information, and/or experiences to justify pros/cons of each option.

• My Decision.

o Select and justify a decision/approach.

o Describe the process you used for choosing this option over the others using one of the Decision-Making Formats from chapter 3.

• Application of Ethical Perspective(s). Explain how the perspectives from Johnson (2012) were applied to the decision you made.

o Ethical Theory(ies). Explain which ethics theories (from Chapter 1) underlie your decision-making process.

o Personal Ethical Development. Describe how at least two of the Components of Personal Ethical Development (from Chapter 2) helped to influence your decision (e.g., personal virtues that influenced your decision, spiritual resources that helped to guide your decision, recognizing a component of the shadow side of your personality that helped you in making the decision).

• My Assumptions.

o Consider what you have taken for granted in making your decision.

o Explain whether your assumptions are reasonable.

• Consequences. Describe the most probable consequences or outcomes associated with taking your perspective.
