Public relations planning are a systematic approach to communications planning. PR plans are used by Practitioners in all different setting to solve communications, marketing. Outreach. and development challenges. While they often use a similar template they Na nearly always customized to various Audiences end they employ different strategies, objectives and tactics to accomplish their goals.


For students. learning the Public relations planning process is essential to developing a logical. methodology and consistent approach to PR issues. Understanding the process and being able to speak the language of a PR plan is a valuable and useful tool that can be applied in numerous job situatoins.

Assignment: to develop a brief, but complete. public relations plan

Description: This assignment involves a two-steps: development of an outline, followed by development of a complete plan.

Outline

The first step is to pic a topic fee our final project. then. using the information from the textbook (planning process Chapter-6) and class discussions and demonstrations, develop a one-page outline for a public relations plan for a company,nonprofit, or other organization of your choosing. You may also develop a plan around the introduction of a product, service or news about an individual. Your outline should include the following eight categories: situation, objectives,audience,strategy. tactics timeline, budget and measurement,with details under each category that you will flesh out for the final project.

References: Include the sources you used for the development of your plan. Please consult multiple information sources including print, online and experts. Books, articles, interviews, annual reports, company literature, first-person interviews and marketing materials are acceptable resources to quote, as is the textbook and the Komecki book, if relevant. Include at
least 3.5 references.

Samples

Sample proposals (PR plans) are posted on D2L for reference. Please make your plan unique to your situation, research and creative approach to the assignment and do not feel compelled to follow the examples. They are just samples for your reference. We will discuss samples in class and why they are offered as examples to follow.

Presentation

From your program, select I key point (can be in the form of a slide) you wish to share with the class. Be sure to establish context (background) and the "essence" of your program in a clear, understandable fashion. Use a visual and present as though you are talking to a client or internal department where you are "selling" your main idea requesting approval for the program and budget.

The paper and presentation

Your paper should be typed (and proofed) and submitted in drop box on Monday, November 14. It should be approximately 6-8 pages in length using 12 pi. type and 1.5-spacing for text or single-spacing for bullets. If you include a cover page or table of contents, those are additional pages and do not count toward your total. Margins should be one inch all around. The paper will be evaluated on the basis of content (including research, recommendations and evaluation methods), clear thinking and logical presentation, and the quality of writing. Sloppiness, misspellings, and poor grammar will detract from your grade. Poorly written or sloppy work-even if the concepts and ideas are excellent-will receive a lower grade based on the quality of the writing. Do not submit a first draft.
