Medicaid - this type of health insurance is used to provide health insurance to "qualifying adult that have limited resources and income" (Burkholder, Nash, 2014, section 5.2, para 1).

The Medicaid funds are disbursed through the individual states with the monies being budgeted. It is said that half the recipients of SSI, also "receive Medicaid benefits because they have some form of physical or mental disability or disorder" (Burkholder, Nash, 2014, 5.2, para

1). Medicare- this is a federally run program that is used to "provide health insurance to adults who are unable to work due to a permanent disability" (Burkholder, Nash, 2014, section 5.2, para 1). If the individual has private health insurance, Medicare can be combined with their private insurance at the expense of the individual (Burkholder, Nash, 2014, section 5.2, para 1).

What are the eligibility requirements and restrictions to receive these funds?

Medicaid - this type of insurance is used to provide health insurance coverage for "low-income individuals, families, children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities" (HHS.gov).

Restrictions can come in the form of the overall amount that a family makes; however, dependent upon whether or not the state has accepted the Medicaid expansion, then eligibility will be determined by the individual's income level and if they are below the "133% poverty level" (HHS.gov).

Medicare - this specific insurance is available to "people who are 65 years or older, younger people with disabilities, and those with End Stage Renal Disease" (HHS.gov).

There are two separate parts to Medicare that include: ? Part A (hospital insurance) - that is available to those that are 65 years or older and have "paid or their spouse has paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years" (HHS.gov).

Part B (Medicare insurance) - must be paid for with the funds either being billed every 3 months or the funds will be removed from a Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Civil Service check (HHS.gov). What happens if eligibility standards/requirements are not met by those with Schizophrenia?

Should a person that is receiving either Medicaid or Medicare and they are no longer eligible to receive these specific types of insurance they could potentially lose their coverage, leaving them to pay for the medical services and medications. What are the benefits and the limitations of these methods? Private insurance such as Blue Cross and Blue Shield, these specific types of insurances can be purchased through a marketplace or through an employer with the premiums being deducted weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly.

The drawback of having private insurance is that the premiums can often be higher for certain people with medical conditions, and people that prior medical problems or that are considered to be high risk can often be refused or dropped from their medical insurance (Burkholder, Nash, 2014, section 5.1, para 5).

Medigap (Medicare Supplement Insurance) - this type of supplemental insurance is used to help "cover the cost that is not covered by Medicare such as co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances" (Medicare.gov). The individual must have Medicare part A & B, as well as pay a monthly premium for the Medigap coverage as well as the Medicare part B, this specific insurance only covers one person and is renewable despite the individual having a prior medical condition or currently being ill (Medicare.gov.).

Most people don't even understand what depression is and ignore the signs. Minorities who live in rough neighborhoods are victims becoming depressed because of their environment. Using drugs, alcohol or just bad behavior is their mechanism for coping with this mental illness they are unaware of (National Alliance on Mental Illness2016).
