Project objective:

The objective of this report is to familiarize students with real life financial markets indexes and describe the constructions of the index, by obtaining financial information from various public sources and evaluating this information.

Students can find relevant information on the Internet, annual reports, TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, and personal interviews with knowledgeable experts.

This exercise will allow the student to find and use information found from the above sources to analyze one of the UAE index from Dubai or Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange ADX.

The report should have the following items:
A. An overview of different financial market in UAE.
B. Index Profile

1) Identify and describe the chosen index.

2) Where is the index of your report? When was your index founded?

3) In which stock markets the index is used and what is the ticker symbol?

4) What is the size of the market and how many companies include in construction the index? (Total assets, total sales, and total number of employees)

5) What is the value of for your company? (Compare through past 3 years and to other index).

6) Compare your index with other index used in the markets either in UAE or other country. (Graph using excel with the other market index- both at the same graph!)

7) What are the companies listed in the index for the past three years? (Graphs)

8) What are the method used in calculating the index and comparing with other index? (Explanations & graphs)

C. Opinions and recommendations
Conclusions (what do you predict/expect, and why?). Would you recommend the method for calculating the index? Why?

D. Appendix: Charts and Graphs
This report is due on the last day of the class; a group of 2 can work as a team to finish this project. The group has the responsibility to distribute the work evenly among the team. The report should at least be 10 pages and should be uploaded using blackboard before the due date.

This report contains:

1) A memo: The cover page should include student's name, Index analyzed, and a brief summary of the report's contents.

2) Your analysis: Typewritten page of text. Use single spacing, Times New Roman, 12-font size. Copying and pasting from any website/article/book without giving references is considered to be plagiarism and is a violation of the Honor Code. Detecting such copy/paste behaviors is quite easy by the aid of some software's. Therefore, I urge you to use your own sentences. If you still want to use sentences from a source you like, write it in quotation marks and list the source at the references page.

3) You should include charts, graphs, or other supporting information. Copying charts/graphs etc. is not acceptable. You have to make your own charts/graphs using Microsoft Excel program. You can support your own charts/graphs with charts/graphs from other sources.
