Project -Business, Government & Society

Purpose:

The purpose of this project is for students to understand the role that business plays in society.

In order to do this the student must define the purpose and relationship of government, business and society through the application of a real world example.

In completing this project, you will:

1. Explain how government protects businesses and why they do so.

2. Explain how business directly affects society or community and why Sriracha exemplifies the relationship

3. Explain how society influences business through government regulation

Outcomes Met With This Project:

• discuss the financial, economic, regulatory, sociopolitical, and technological factors as they relate to a dynamic business environment

• explain the importance of the integration of individuals and systems to organizational effectiveness

Description:

Student will create a PowerPoint using the following information for slides and topics. In completing the project, you will use the course material and research on Sriracha. You will use these resources to support the reasoning and conclusions presented.

Here is a resource to create a PowerPoint presentation: How To Make An Amazingly Professional PowerPoint Presentation. Do not fill the slides with pictures or images of Sriracha Sauce images.

Note Section: All slides will include the explanation of the topics discussed in the notes section of the PowerPoint presentation. The support for the explanations will come from the class material and will include in-text citations and a reference list.

The crux of this project is the use of the course material to respond to the requirements. Although it is important to create a great PowerPoint, the presentation does not count as much as what is contained in the presentation.

PowerPoint Elements:

You will create no more than 10 slides. Slides will consist of:

Slide 1: Title page with your name, class number, project name and instructor's name

Slide 2: Explain the concepts business, government, and society.

Slide 3: Explain the objectives and purpose of a business, government and society.

Slide 4: Explain how the Trump protective tariffs on Chinese goods exemplifies the relationship between government and business (In other words, how does government protect businesses).

Slide 5 - 7: Use 1 to 3 slides to explain how the Sriracha controversy demonstrates the relationship between business and society.

To complete these slides, you will complete research on Sriracha Hot Sauce. You may use the library, news articles, video from CBS This Morning and other credible sources to identify and discuss the issues as it relates to business and society.

Slide 8: Explain how society influences business through government activity.

Slide 9: Explain how the three bodies (government, business and society) interface.

Slide 10: Provide the reference list in APA format.

Slides: The presentation is not a slide show of pictures so avoid cluttering the slides with pictures and images. Think of this as a presentation you would submit to managers and executives. You want everyone to walk away with a good impression of your work. Start thinking of yourself as a brand that you want to promote! The work you perform is what people will associate with you when they think of your name.

Do you want to be perceived as professional, an expert or one who cannot be taken seriously? Create a terrific presentation!
Plan your slides on paper before you create them in PowerPoint. Make sure the slides do not present information overload. Only present the information that the audience needs to hear. The rest will be presented in the Speaker Notes.

Presentation Requirements

• Use the grading rubric while completing the project to ensure all requirements are met that will lead to the highest possible grade.

• Third person writing is required. Third person means that there are no words such as "I, me, my, we, or us" (first person writing), nor is there use of "you or your" (second person writing).

• Contractions are not used in business writing, so do not use them.

• For all other source material used in the analysis, you will not use direct quotation marks but will instead paraphrase. What this means is that you will put the ideas of an author or article into your own words rather than lifting directly from a source document. You may not use more than four consecutive words from a source document, as doing so would require direct quotation marks. This requirement include facts from the case scenario. Changing words from a passage does not exclude the passage from having quotation marks.

• Use in-text citations and provide a reference list that contains the reference associated with each in-text citation.

• You may not use books in completing this project.

• Provide the page or paragraph number in every in-text citation presented. When using an eBook from the classroom, you will see that there are no page numbers so you will provide the Chapter Name and Section Title.
