Procurement Essay

You are part of a project team who is purchasing new technical equipment for your company's research and development department. Your plan indicates that you will need to hire an outside training consultant who will hold a three-day workshop on how to operate and maintain the new equipment being purchased & installed as part of your project. One of your team members has done a great job of negotiating the agreement--terms, dates, and price--with a training consultant you feel will deliver great results. You have just finished reviewing it, and are ready to sign off on it and tell her to send it to the consultant for his signature. Done deal?

Your phone rings.

It is the director of your company’s procurement department. He is furious. “What’s this I hear you’re issuing a contract without going through my department? Get up to my office immediately to clear this up!”
