Process Analysis

This week, we have learned a great deal about process analysis, work analysis, and process flow from the readings and examples from the book. You have created a table for the process analysis of Noodles & Co. For this exercise part, we are going to use the same example to be efficient in time and effort and we are going to create a process flow diagram. Attached is an example of the process flow diagram of McDonald's versus an abbreviated version of the same process that made Wendy's popular. Examine the differences. Each symbol represents a step in the sequence of a process. The process that Wendy's created provided the impression of a made-to-order experience (a fresh product). You will find on the attached spreadsheet the symbols used, the old process diagram of McDonald's, and the innovative Wendy's process below. This process increased 30% of sales for Wendy's and forced McDonald's to change its process. Very simple yet useful technique to map processes.

Exercise

You are going to create a process flow diagram on a spreadsheet similar to this example from the list of activities (steps) you have already identified from the activities of our first discussion board. You are welcome to use the same template of the example attached and just copy/paste each shape if you like. You may use different shapes for each type of activity as defined previously: operation, movement, inspection, delay, or storage. They may follow one sequence or have activities that are simultaneous (use separate arrows). Write a concluding paragraph on the same spreadsheet with your thoughts about points of the process flow that are efficient or may need improvement. You will submit one spreadsheet with the process flow and your concluding thoughts. Think about the process flow of your own application project and how to apply this technique.
