Problem

A frequently noted weakness in many healthcare systems is the lack of funding for new technology. This is oftentimes a 'push-pull' situation for our healthcare organizations. We struggle to allocate the financial resources to bring in new technology yet may fall behind our competitors if we don't. In my situation, as a non-profit organization we utilize community fundraising as one of our means of raising capital to meet our needs in this area. For this year, our hospital gala will focus on raising money to fund the expansion of our maternity department services including new equipment. Other years have brought in money for the ER as well as our new MRI facility. As with any business, healthcare organizations must carefully weigh the costs and benefits of investing in new technology and equipment and determine what priorities best match the overall strategic goals. How do you see your organization addressing this issue?
