Problem: Part 4: Magazine Article

Your final project will be to create your own magazine article that addresses and attempts to answer your final research question. The article should be 2-2.5 pages double-spaced using 12 pt font (this does not include your reference section), and should be submitted as a .doc or a .pdf file. No other file formats will be accepted.

Submit the following on this discussion forum:

• In the text box: As 3 bullet points, include 1) the title of your article AND 2) your original Part 1 research question AND 3) your final research question (make sure your final research question has been appropriately edited to fit the information you discuss in your article).

• Submit your magazine article as an attachment (hit "Reply" as you normally would, and then there is an "Attach" icon in the lower lefthand corner where you can attach your word document). The file should be a .doc or .pdf file to ensure that I can read your submission.

Your magazine article should include the following:

• Start with a catchy but accurate and informative title.

• Begin your article with an initial 2-3 sentence summary that stands alone as its own paragraph and serves to hook the reader. Why should the reader care about what you have to say and keep reading?

• Then address and answer your research question by discussing and citing the THREE following sources:

- Information from your textbook

- Your popular source from Part 2

- One of your two scholarly articles from Part 3

- You are welcome to include additional sources if you want to (optional)

Note: Please make sure to include a detailed description of your popular source and scholarly article in your magazine article. I am very happy to meet with you to discuss the organization of your paper if you'd like.

• End your article with 2 unanswered questions. You have hit the tip of the iceberg with the research you have done this quarter, and even if you had read all the research performed on your topic, there would still be unanswered questions! These 2 questions should not be questions of confusion, but questions about the topic that have not been answered by the sources you have provided. Leave the reader curious to learn more!

• Using APA style, include appropriate in-text citations and a reference section for ALL the sources you use in your paper. You can find the full citation for the textbook in your syllabus. Put your reference section in alphabetical order based on the last name of each source's first author.

Important notes: Remember that you are writing a magazine article. Thus, make sure to weave the above requirements together in a manner consistent with an article that you would find in Scientific American, Psychology Today, etc. It might help to go back and review some examples of magazine articles to see what makes for a good one.

Write in a clear, accessible, and engaging style that you would appreciate if you were the reader. Help your audience understand why this topic is interesting and why they should care! Also, assume that your audience is made up of intelligent adults who are not familiar with your topic. Make sure to define any terms that someone unfamiliar with this specific line of research might not understand.

Make sure to avoid plagiarism! Information should be written in your own words, unless it is a direct quote from the source, and these should be few and far between. Review the plagiarism information in the Getting Started Module.
