Prepare Report on Importance of Human Resources Fundamentals

Case Study

XYZ opened its first optical store in May 2009. Since then it has opened another 20 stores and is considered at the forefront of a revolution in the eyewear industry. XYZ has an on-site computerized and automated optical laboratory at each store that makes prescription glasses on request. After having their eyesight tested by XYZ optometrist, clients can select their frames, and watch as their lenses are being made in the laboratory. XYZ Incorporated clients typically pay a slight premium price for the convenience of fast service that enables them to get their glasses in a shorter time than through conventional optical clinics. Each XYZ Incorporated store employs an average of 10 people who perform a variety of jobs. Each Store Manager is responsible for the financial, marketing and human resource activities that are conducted at the store level. It has always been XYZ Incorporated policy to provide a high level of in-house training and development for all staff and the Directors have considered this to be an investment rather than a cost. In recent years, there has been a move towards competency-based training. XYZ Incorporated has a modern computer system with all stores linked via an intranet system that also enables some usage of net-meeting technology as a means of conducting meetings with small groups of store managers. Each store manager has Internet access and the HR department in Head Office also utilizes an HRIS for its record keeping - including staff training and development.
