Prejudice is negative ideas regarding subordinate ethnic groups and ideas expressing the superiority of the dominant group (p. 318)

Individual-level discrimination are actions carried out by individuals or small groups, usually in violation of the society's laws or norms (p. 319).

Institutional discrimination is the result of policies and structures of organizations and institutions (p.319).

African Americans can be considered to be unique among U.S. minority groups due to the history of African Americans in the United States. The history of repression and the lack of rights early on in the history of the United States. 

According to our book on page 311-312, Hispanic Americans fall below average on all measures of class. They suffer discrimination from employers, where they are deemed as expendable. They take the lowest paying jobs that require the least amount of education. The lack of a college education and the language barrier is a downfall for many. However, with that being said, if a lack of college education and the language barrier are taken out, there is not a whole lot of difference in Hispanics and whites in occupational status and earning.
