Potential Problem Analysis (PPA) is a process of examining your existing plans to identify what can go wrong with them, so that preventive action can be taken and/or recovery plans can be developed before any problems occur. Apply the potential problem solving technique to identify at least five potential problems that could occur, what the potential consequences would be, what the potential cause might be, and what you could do to either (1) prevent the problem from occurring in the first place or (2) recover from the adverse consequences. Scenario: You have secured a job as an IT intern in the Police Department in the city of Techville. The Police Chief, Angel Right, is planning to install GoPR body cameras on all police officers to improve interaction between police and the community and also prevent the increasing conflict between police and the community. However as Chief Right considers the implementation, she is overwhelmed by the challenges and opposition from officers, who resist the wearing of body cameras. The chief list her challenges as follows 1. Police does not have a qualified IT department to manage the data collected by the cameras 2. The vendor is only willing to provide limited technical support till the cameras are in operation 3. Public concern about recording sensitive and private information that become public record 4. Potential law suits from the public because of violation of privacy 5. How much of the data should be stored and for how long, and what are the regulations on these matters 6. Does the department have the resources to store all this data to meet the regulations 7. How can the department use this information legally for training and improving community policing 8. How and when should the information be used in the courts of law Perform a potential problem analysis to determine all the things that could go wrong with implementing the GroPR body camera, the consequences that would result, the possible causes, and what preventive action you could recommend to avoid each undesirable event from occurring. If you identify a bad thing that could happen that can’t be avoided, what could you do as a “work-around” or to recover from the consequences? Use the template below to help you perform the analysis. List at least 4 things that could go wrong and then complete the rest of the columns.
