1. Our text suggests that political parties perform several important functions that help hold the political system together and keep it working. Which one resonates with you and why? And while you're mulling that over, weigh in on the role interests groups play? Are they toxic to the body politic?

2. How it's possible for a political party to accommodate multiple viewpoints and still function as a cohesive organization?  

3. Would Washington and Jefferson be turned off by the amount of money being spent on political campaigns?  Do you think they would find it distasteful, repugnant, yet oddly constitutional?

4. Compare and contrast single-member districts and proportional representation (PR). How effective is each electoral system in representing its people's interests? How do they support the party systems around which they arose?

5. What might a viable third party mean to the way the other more traditional parties approach elections or even governance?

6. What is the advantage of proportional representation?
