Political Science Assignment

Students are expected to watch a minimum of 30 minutes of political news a week. Nearly any news source is acceptable, with the exception of celebrity gossip magazines (People, In Touch, The National Inquirer, etc.). Be sure to take notes during the program, including the program name, outlet (cable, television, online, etc.), and date viewed. Notes should reflect approximately 12 weeks of watching the news. Students will write two 1-2 paged papers, connecting current political news to the material from the textbook and lecture outlines. These two papers, along with notes on the news, are to be stapled together and turned in as one assignment.

I. Summary

Under this heading, write 2-3 paragraphs summarizing the news programs you watched for this assignment. The paragraphs should be a detailed synopsis of a period of political news. In your summary, include the name of the news programs you watched and the dates that you viewed them.

II. Integration

Under this heading, write roughly 4-6 paragraphs connecting the terms in the textbook and lecture outlines to the political news included in your summary.

III. Commentary

Under this heading, write 1-2 paragraphs expressing your personal views about the political topics you included in the summary.
