You will use APA (American Psychological Association) style for this paper. Six to eight pages in length, not including the title page or bibliography.

To provide you with an opportunity to think about a communication issue or problem you are having and then attempt to solve it through research.

In this paper, you will first think about a current or past issue or problem you have had

1) within an interpersonal relationship (friends, family, significant others, etc.) that is

2) about communication.

Some examples might be: a friend who never listens to you, a significant other who won't disclose to you, or a family member who has distancing nonverbal communication.

The best thing to do is to take a look through our textbook at the chapters and individual topics within the chapters and think about how they may relate to issues you have had in your relationships.

After you have selected an issue, you will then do your research to "answer" your problem/issue. You will get your research from three sources:

1) one book in popular rotation (think self-help/relationship books);

2) one academic journal article (preferably from a communication, psychology, or perhaps sociology journal); and

3) our textbook. You are welcome to use additional sources, but must at least cover the required types and amounts.

Once you have decided on an issue to discuss, you may want to begin by searching for popular self-help and relationship books that discuss this topic online.

You need to find one that you can check out from WMU's library, or purchase a digital or hard copy if you wish to do so. Googling titles such as "self help book about ______" or "relationship book about _____" may be a good place to start.

Great places to get journal articles include the library's databases. When searching for a scholarly source in the library's databases, be sure to check search box for scholarly or research articles.

Here is an outline of what should be included in your final paper (page lengths are just suggestions and may be a little shorter or longer for each section for your paper).

Introduction (half page to 1 page)

Discussion of your Communication Issue (1-2 pages)

Describe the issue you Are experiencing or have experienced in the past

• Be sure to focus on the communication aspects of the issue

Discuss any tips the book gives on how to solve or deal with your issue.

Be sure to cite appropriately. ?Discuss what your journal source says regarding your issue (1-2 pages)

Discuss any tips or findings the journal gives on how to solve or deal with your issue.

Be sure to cite appropriately. ?Add your bibliography (in APA it's called References). Add a cover page.?Double check your in-text citations.?Thoroughly edit your paper.
