Why do you think many people are so frightened by globalization? Based on what is occurring in the world today, do you expect the globalization backlash to grow stronger or weaker over the next decade?

Globalization is the idea that businesses are moving beyond their traditional markets and expanding nationally or globally. Not only does globalization have the effect of increasing both trade and cultural exchange. Globalization affects the economy which is why there is such a debate about the topic. Like anything, there are both pros and cons. Understanding both will help to understand the reasoning for the debate.

Pros:

Globalization creates a greater market for many companies which has potential to gain more customers since it creates easier access for those customers in different countries.

Globalization also offers the possibility for more options for investments for different companies.

Working with other countries helps to understand each other’s culture better which also helps us to be more socially approachable than they once were.

Being as the state of the economy is always a concern, globalization makes each country’s economy dependent on the next.

Cons:

Outsourcing is a huge reason people are not in favor of globalization. Those who are and have been steadily employed are at risk of losing their jobs due to them being outsourced.

Smaller companies are afraid they will become over ruled by corporate organizations since they have more power and money invested by them.

Since we are quite the dominant culture, there are also thoughts that globalization will lead to us imposing our cultural practices on other cultures.

Globalization is a scary idea for many since it basically means we, along with many other countries are letting our “walls” down. In a way this means we are slowly becoming undivided. The concept is not an easy one for everyone to understand or agree. Over the next decade, the backlash may grow stronger as globalization expands and people of this culture are not as subjective to this type of change. Eventually, the debate will start to die down as people will realize this change is happening, but it will likely become worse first.
