Please reply to this first student response: How technology can improve online learning
In this article "How Technology Can Improve Online Learning" Robert Mendenhall tells us more about the delivery of education instead of how technology has improved educating students in a online environment. He explains how brick and mortar institutions and online education are basically the same when it comes to graduation rates and dropouts with online learning having a slight advantage over traditional schools in education. Also he emphasizes on how the curriculum should be focusing more on its students are applying what they have learned in the classroom. Only later on does he give his opinion on how technology can improve the learning process by stating " By using the technology to teach--to deliver the content of a course--we are able to free students to study what they need to learn, and to do so at their own pace" (Mendenhall 2011). Due to his lack of elaborating on the subject of his title I would not recommend this article for a research paper.
The reason I chose this article is because I believe that online universities and schools are a great advantage for students like me who have a disability or cannot cope well in a traditional classroom setting because of being bullied on or a psychological element such as ADHD. For someone like me who is a quadriplegic the online educating environment drastically helps me in furthering my education because it allows me the time and flexibility to complete my assignments at a pace that is less stressful than a brick and mortar facility. Also there are economic advantages in attending an online classroom due to the ever rising gas prices. Without the advancements of online technology I do not believe strongly that I would be returning to college and furthering my education in obtaining a Bachelor''s Degree. I believe online classrooms are the wave of the future.
