Discussion #1:

When reading the case study on Google, Inc. I was surprised to read that they would not help with child porn cases to put criminals away.

This is something that to me is disturbing. Why would they want people using their search tools to try to hurt children. Also, ) because China did not want all sites viewable it was as if this made Google, Inc more hungry to launch Google.cn. I feel that Google needs to be respectful of what other countries law and rules are as well as wanting to protect their users. Senge's 5 disciplines are key to having a successful company. System thinking means that problems do not magically disappear.

Google, Inc has been known to have many different issues and the company needs to prove to users and other countries that they are in business to be in the best interest of it's users and to not promote harm or showing others how to commit crime through the web.

When it comes to Google, Inc's employees the employees have to feel that they are working for company that wants the best for them as well as their users. When Google, Inc went public they were hoping to gain investors so they needed to reel things in and make themselves less controversial.

Mental models which are which are deeply engraved assumptions, pictures and images which influence how we understand the world and take action Google, Inc. needs to present themselves as a strong company that wants to be above it's competitor's such as MSN and Yahoo and be present and doing the right things.

As Google, Inc keeps changing the company owners and employees have to learn to adapt to the different rules and regulations in countries they want to be present in. They need to abide by the laws of these countries and not to change the way they run their country. Not all countries are the same. They all have different values and beliefs and Google, Inc. needs to do whatever it takes to gain their trust no matter what it takes.

As an employee for Google, Inc. I would feel uncomfortable working for a company who will not protect the users and assist in a case against a child pornographer. Google, Inc. felt that the FBI's demand in the porn case were illegal that is why they did not comply. Google, Inc. needs to take a step back and think about who they are serving.

Discussion #2:

With the advancement of technology and high-speed internet, Google has remained one of the top leading search engines. We can now access information through this search engine from anywhere in the world, and it is thanks to Google being able to adapt its business to change.

Communication throughout the globe has strengthened in recent years thanks to more instant and effective channels such as Twitter and Facebook. This development further contributes to Marshall McLuhan's concept of a "Global Village"(McLuhan & Powers 1989), involving a world so connected by information regardless of its international borders.

As Google continues to grow, it will face challenges where the use of Peter Senge's five disciplines (Senge, 1990) will come into play. As an employee for the company the discipline named "Systems Thinking" would be particularly important because you never want to assume business problems will disappear.

Which is also in line with Argenti's text in Corporate Communication, "Assume things will only get worse in today's complex environment, especially with the ever-growing prevalence of consumer-generated media..."(Argenti, 2013). You will need to address problems as quickly as possible with communication.

For an employee, the use of Senge's "Personal Mastery" will be essential in communicating with the public and reflecting the goal and philosophies of the business.
