Reading material: Nietzsche, Old and New Tables and The Higher Man from Thus Spake Zarathustrain

Question:

One of the influences on Nietzsche was Feuerbach. The problem that Nietzsche had with Feuerbach was that Feuerbach accepted Christianity's morality (love of the other person as highest bliss) even though Feuerbach denied the separate reality of God (there is only Man). Nietzsche thought that Christian morality was a way to keep human beings from realizing their true perfection, from evolving to the next highest level of humanity. Here is a passage from today's readings: "Thus demandeth my great love to the remotest ones: be not considerate of thy neighbour! Man is something that must be surpassed. There are many diverse ways and modes of surpassing: see thou thereto! But only a buffoon thinketh: "man can also be overleapt." Surpass thyself even in thy neighbour: and a right which thou canst seize upon, shalt thou not allow to be given thee!"

In this passage offers a commandment of what he calls "great love." The commandment is "Be not considerate of thy neighbor." It is not "Love thy neighbor as thyself." One could interpret this as a simple reversal of the Bible. But then it would be impossible to understand what Nietzsche means by calling this a commandment of love. How can you interpret this passage as not just a reversal of the Bible, but a continuation and even a radicalization of the Bible. How can Nietzsche be understood as someone who actually wants to believe in something higher than Man? (Hint: You need to think about what he says in the same passage about "surpassing" and "overleaping" man. What is it that you love when you love your fellowman as one who is to be "overleapt", one who is only truly who is he when he surpasses himself.)

Note: The essay should be about 400 words of your own. Please answer the question base on the provided reading material. No extra sources are necessary.
