Option 1: Some religions are criticized for their attitudes toward and treatment of women: Hindus, Mormons, some Christians, Muslims, among them. What are some of the differences in attitudes toward women in Islam and one or two other religions that you chose to consider? In what are such ideas grounded? Are the attitudes about women as women, or are they necessarily about women in relation to men? And for a religion as wide spread as Islam, look into whether the attitudes are rooted in Islam as a matter of practicing faith or whether they are rooted in the particular culture.
Option 2: Many new religious movements follow a complex system of holy days. Among these is the Wiccan religion, whose numerous holidays commemorate the cycle of the year. Describe the structure of the Wiccan calendar and what its major holidays represent, how they are celebrated, why some places are particularly important. Choose one of the holidays/celebrations, and discuss ways that other religions have been influenced by it, and the challenges that it poses.
Option 3: Although the Baha'i faith grew from Islam, Muslims consider it to be a heretical sect. How does the Baha'i faith differ from Islam? What problems have these differences caused? Baha'I has a vision for world religions to come together. How is this expressed in Baha'i art, teaching, music, life?
