PERSONALITY

For this first SLP, you will compare and contrast the results of a personality assessment that you and another person will complete. This assessment that measures 5 personality traits (i.e., openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism) will be used in this exercise to assess YOUR personality.

Fill in the survey in this and ask another person who works with you but who isn't close to you (e.g., not a close friend or a relative) to evaluate YOU using the same survey.

Please ask that person to indicate the extent to which he or she thinks that each statement describes YOU (rather than himself or herself) by using the 5-point scale. So for example, in the first item: "(I see myself as someone who) is talkative", if the other person thinks that YOU are extremely talkative he or she should mark the number 5 which denotes strong agreement.

After obtaining results from the two surveys (following the assessment instructions), compare and contrast these results by indicating the similarities and differences across the five dimensions. Base your answers on the Costa & McCrae (1992) article in the required reading list for this SLP and use the terminology that is used in this paper to present your arguments.

Then, try to explain the reasons for the differences you identified, and discuss whether you are being perceived by the other person more or less favorably.

The construct impression management refers to the process by which people attempt to influence the image others have of them. Discuss whether or not impression management can explain part or most of the gaps you detected.

You are advised to base your explanation on any theoretical framework or empirical evidence that you may find relevant here.

Finally, based on McCrae & John (1992) article, try to explain what is the theoretical basis for assuming the existence of five main personality dimensions.
