Performance management and appraisal is a critical function in developing, motivating, and correcting employee performance. Everyone has been the subject of a performance appraisal - whether on the job, in school, in athletic events or artistic performances. Review the concepts of performance management and appraisal in the text and the lecture notes. ??For your initial post: Describe a time that your performance was appraised or evaluated. Were you being evaluated individually, or as part of a group activity. What type of evaluation was used - absolute or relative to peers? Who did the appraisal - one person, or many? Was self-evaluation included? Were you rated against a fixed scale, or based on objectives you had helped determine? Was the appraisal related to you in an effective manner? And, most importantly:
- Did the evaluation help you to improve your performance, hinder your performance, or have no effect?
- How might you have done the appraisal differently, if you could?
