People who are against more immigration to the United States, argue that immigration should be based on the idea of assimilation. In other words, an objective of the US immigration policy should be to make the new immigrants assimilate with the US society at large. Therefore, things like “immigration surplus” is a rather narrow and incomplete analysis of costs and benefits from immigration. Is there any validity to this type of argument?
