PART 1:

Participate in, review, and critique a cultural activity that has been chosen by yourself specifically for this assignment. Write a reflection paper on your learning and observations. Organize your thoughts into a minimum 1,200 word paper. Relate the activity to at least one period covered in the course (ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Romans, Middles Ages). Make sure you address each of the items on the scoring guide. Example of activities for this "Experience in the Arts" include: museum trips, period plays or other live theater, ballet or opera, orchestra or vocal concert experiences, Broadway musicals both live and on CD or other types of experiences on CD, international films, virtual field trips, literature, documentary films related to the material.

Be sure that your paper includes:

• a complete description of the activity in the arts that you did
• what historical period it relates to
• how it compares with work from other periods
• a statement on why you chose this activity in the arts and a complete critique

You can also go online. There are numerous virtual online galleries that you can use. You can view this artwork and write your cultural activity on these. I have listed two examples below but there are so many more on the internet:

What were the Crusades?

* How many were there?

* Were they successful?

* How do you think the Christians, Jews, and Muslims living in the Holy Lands felt when the Christian Europeans came into their lands?

* What are the modern implications of the Crusades in today's world?

* Complete an Internet search or visit the library if needed for you to prepare for the discussion.
