Overview: Apply the third step of the DMAIC cycle to your selected problem or process and document your results. Revise your project charter as required, create a cause-effect diagram, and identify the potential root cause of the problem.

Slide One
Refer to Milestone One.

Slide Two
Refer to Milestone Two. Make revisions as necessary.

Slide Three
Conduct your fishbone analysis. Use PowerPoint drawing tools or a blank piece of paper, and insert a JPEG of the chart here to replace the example.

Slide Four
List the root causes that, based on the fishbone, you think are worth pursuing. Remember, drill down to the five whys for each bone on the chart to get to this level of detail.

A. Conduct a fishbone analysis to identify potential root causes of the problem or process deficiency you have identified. Be sure to include all relevant categories, such as people, methods, machines, materials, measurements, and environments.

B. Then, prioritize the potential root causes of the problem based on your fishbone analysis. Be sure to logically justify your conclusions with specific evidence.

C. Finally, select appropriate hypothesis tests to validate the potential root causes you have identified. Logically justify your selections with specific evidence.
